Hackensack, NJ, September 12, 2006 – During its first visit to the Children’s Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center, Bears 4 Kids and former Giant linebacker and NFL Hall of Famer, Harry Carson, delivered 120 bears to ill and abused children.
“To brighten the day of a child is what it’s all about,” said Mr. Carson during the visit. “This is great,” he boasted with a proud smile. Parents and children alike were uplifted by meeting Mr. Carson and chatting about his career accomplishments.
“We’ve visited many hospitals,” said Bears 4 Kids Founder and President, Joseph B. Sprung. “The Children’s Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center is amongst the top facilities for children. Even though I am an avid Jets fan, I’m seriously considering switching my allegiance to the Giants after seeing how Harry Carson interacted with the children. Today we made a difference and made children, parents and hospital professionals smile. The professionalism at Hackensack and Mr. Carson inspired these children, their families and the professionals of the hospital.”
Guiding the visit was Erika Leeuwenburgh, Chief of the Department of Childlife at the Hospital. “This is something special in the day for the children,” said Mrs. Leeuwenburgh. “People care and there is community support. It means a lot to these families to know that they’re not alone and that their difficulties are recognized with a special gift.”
